The Last Roses of Fall

The temperature today is around 75 degrees, perfect for pruning the last roses of fall. I have several different roses, and this lavender rose is a favorite.

This is a rather small rose, but in April they are HUGE.

While pruning this rose bush, I noticed that several looked different.

A little lighter than the rose should be.

almost white rose from the same bush

And then, at the bottom, this red rose.

A picture of both the almost white and the red rose on the same bush.  Is this unusual?  Have you ever seen this?

This is what the bush produced for over eight years.

  1. The roses are exquisite regardless of the color, but it does seem strange to have all three colors on the same bush! Don't think I've seen that before -- of course, there is a whole raft of things that I haven't seen before, but this is unusual. Glad you got the shots that you did, Christella!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  2. How beautiful! Roses in November - I guess there are benefits to living in the desert. I left this response on my blog, but here it is again:
Christella - Thank you for your most kind comments. These ideas of mine about women in opera are hardly original. There's a book, "Opera, or, The undoing of women" By Catherine Clément that deals in detail with the sociological implications. I probably should have quoted it. Also, there was a course at the University of Georgia called Opera Heroines: The Powerful Victims of Music.
I'm sorry to hear how closely you identify with women being put in their place. - But I guess it's quite universal in our society.

  3. Those roses are beautiful! I love the purple and white roses. I like roses that aren't red. Pastel roses are amazing!

  4. Those are so beautiful! I'm guessing the white and red were joined to make the pink variety at one time and now is reverting back. Very interesting.

  5. Christella - What a good and faithful follower you are! I started a post, but then I sent it to draft because I'm hosting book club tonight. It will be done soon. Thanks for your interest.
